Numbers

Through three different cities,
Three years of knowing each other,
Thrice he asked her,
& then never went any further.

Two similar people,
Making two choices separate,
Creating two different destinies,
& moving on when time didn't wait.

With a one-way ticket,
To a one-street town,
One left alone leaving behind,
A love the other never found.

Zeroing in on the other,
Was just another zero-sum game,
Strangers to acquaintances to friends,
to acquaintances now turned strangers again.
